The Moveaway

There are several explanations about how you should begin your swing. Here is how I believe the action should start.

First of all, this is a most crucial time, because you can put yourself on a path to success or by default, get into a position that may guarantee a bad swing.

I believe that to promote maximum power and accuracy the movement should begin by moving the shoulder closest to the target, (front shoulder), down as it coils back. Early independent movement of your hands can disengage upper body core rotation, thus reducing the amount of potential energy that can be built. If you don’t load the gun you can’t shoot the gun.

One of the most common mistakes that I see with my students is starting the swing with hands and arms and never engaging the upper body core rotation, leaving them powerless and in a poor, uncoiled position at the top of the backswing.

The pictures demonstrate that when the clubhead drags back it is in a wide position outside your hands.

This is a power building move and will help get the club in a great position at the top to make a smooth downswing transition.

Practicing this “Moveaway” action will improve your golf swing !
