Are you physically ready to play golf?

If you are a middle aged golfer and you feel as though you are losing your ability to hit it like you used to, you are probably normal. I guess you really can’t fool Mother Nature. You don’t really notice it over a period of time, but one day you wake up and you are only hitting your driver 240 and you just can’t figure it out. Perhaps a new driver will help !, you may rationalize. That is just not the answer!

I finally faced up to the reality that age has caught up with me. FEAR not though my middle aged friend, for their is help at a local group known as Human Form Fitness, Mr. Stephen Ladd, a certified member of the Titleist Performance Institute, is at the ready to help your game.

Last post I was headed to visit this refuge from aging to get checked out. This guy knows his stuff. That was the best hour and a half I have spent in finding out about the truth of why I can’t hit it like I used to. The evaluation was thorough and informative and very direct. I have lost flexibility and have deterioration of a lot of muscles, including the ones most directly associated with swinging a club effectively.

Stephen is now designing a custom made plan to get me back on track. My results of the evaluation will be compared to data from senior tour players to pinpoint my weaknesses. Based on these specific weaknesses a physical training plan will be instituted to strengthen my golfing muscles.

I will be presented with the plan this Friday. Stephen will show me the exercises necessary to make improvement. The work is up to me. I am excited to see if I can be ready to play by March.

Please stop by early next week to see if I survive. As always, take advantage of your practice time by practicing slowly and deliberately!

The Amazing Angle Swing Training System

I am excited to tell you about my new Amazing Angle Swing Training System.

I believe it is a comprehensive swing training and development system that all players can benefit from.

The Amazing Angle, as a swing training device has been developed over a period of 5 years during real training sessions with real students. It allows my students to experience the feel of effective movements and positions in their golf swings and eliminate the “killer” moves that don’t allow progress in their game.

The training system incorporates “ball striking” drills, that teach correct fundamentals of “impact”. Impact after all is the true essence of all great players ability to be great.

The good news, the Amazing Angle is easy to use, and will help you habituate consistent and effective swing movements and positions, anytime and anywhere. The price will be less than one golf lesson.

The system is also be designed to allow you to submit your video taped golf swing to me for a rigorous evaluation and personal swing development training program, with subsequent swing evaluations to check your progress.

The program is scheduled to roll out October 15, 2012. This program has been successfully helping my students and I know it will help you!

Please feel free to email any questions about the program to me personally at jkhpro@pga.com. Good luck and don’t forget to practice with a purpose!

Timing your golf swing

I had 2 very interesting lesson sessions yesterday. These students have been working very hard on specific swing mechanics with their Amazing Angle swing trainers, optimizing swing positions and movements, and are making wonderful progress.

Both students, while making progress, were just not hitting the ball purely, with power. In cases like this I try to explain that in addition to practicing swing mechanics, we are also responsible for timing our swing correctly. A distinction should also be made between fast paced swings and slower paced swings. Which is better? Both can be good. There are great players who swing with a fast pace and great players who swing with a slower pace. The point is that swing pace is different from swing sequence or timing.

There is a book that I highly recommend for both new and advanced students that deals with this subject. The title of the book is “Tour Tempo”, written by John Novosel. His contention is that all good golf swings, including a long list of tour players, are timed in a 3 to 1 ratio. Measuring this relationship is done with a special camera that allows counting frames of the backswing and downswing to impact. According to Mr. Novosel, if for example your backswing has 30 frames, your downswing would have 10 frames. 27 frames up, 9 frames down, etc.

If you actually count one thousand one, one thousand two to the top of your backswing and then one thousand three to impact you get the basic feel of 3 to 1 timing. The measurement is obviously more complicated than this, but I think this concept has some juice. Try it the next time you are in the practice mode, you may be pleasantly surprised by the results!
